This month for Staff Spotlight we hear from the newest member of the PBC Team – Apprentice Shannon Kennedy.
Are you an Albury/Wodonga local originally?
From when I was young, I never knew I’d find myself where I am today. I was born in the ever-growing city of Melbourne and lived in Cheltenham – just south of the CBD. At age 8 my Mum, Mark (our stepfather) and 5 siblings moved to the high country out near Omeo to live on a farm. Mum had told us it was only to have a holiday. I immediately fell in love with the fresh air and open landscape.
What path led you into the construction industry?
The kids would all work together with Mark to build onto our house. Building back then with Mark is what led to my passion leading me to where I am now with PBC. Little did I know I would open up to the country lifestyle so much. Building cubby houses, rafts and all other creations which came to mind.
Since learning the trade both from when I was young and working with PBC I yearn to fix up my own houses, buy into property, build in my spare time and rent out properties.
What are you looking forward to most in this role?
Despite being quite late to the carpentry trade, I am proud to be where I am now. I look forward to learning all there is to know in this trade and put my learnt skills into action both on the job and in my own time. I love how Danian the supervisor gives me a lot of responsibility to do a job. And I appreciate the effort everybody gives me to understand the task at hand. Everybody works well together and has a great dynamic.
In the future I’d love to be part of monumental buildings like the Sydney Opera house that can be displayed to the world and stand the test of time.
